Friday 23rd September - Braless for the first time in my new job

A month or so ago I started a new job. Last Friday the quite a few of us went out for a few drinks after work for one of the girl’s birthday. Most seemed to be planning to make a night of it so most of the girls got changed before they left the office.

At about 4.00 o’clock, I changed in to a shortish black skirt and a cream cashmere polo-neck top. Trying not to think about it too much, I whipped my bra off and threw it in my bag. As you probably know, the fact is that I wouldn’t usually wear a bra with a cashmere top but this is a new place and I hadn’t tested the “braless” water yet. This company is much smaller than any previous job, we’re all in one room (in a large building with many other occupants) and there’s no hiding from anyone. Until that day, I hadn’t worn anything at all remotely controversial.

Before leaving the loo, I checked myself in the mirror and thought I looked OK and went back in to the office.

The way two of the lads reacted (there’s only four lads in the company) it was as if I’d walked in the room naked with a traffic cone on my head. At first I thought something had happened and it took me a few seconds to work out what was going on and, well, it was me.

My initial thought was that it was the short skirt, then I realised it was the fact that I was braless. Oh dear. What could I do? Go and put it back on? Brave it out? In all the years I’ve been going braless, this was the first time I’ve ever experienced such a childish reaction. They’d brought everyone’s attention to me and I was feeling very uncomfortable. At first I was completely embarrassed, but that emotion soon turned to anger.

Just who did they think they were? And what right did they think they had to react in such a way and so openly. After a short time, they seemed to get over it, besides, there was no chance I was ever going to put my bra back on that night.

  2. We missed you! And quite right to - wear whatever you like. I hope they get used to it, and learn to enjoy it subtly.
